Guestbook phrase index
People wrote the same things because the same things worked. A guestbook box did not ask for a review, exactly. It asked for proof that someone had passed through.

Why repeat?
Guestbooks made strangers write in public. Most people reached for a known phrase, the way you write "happy birthday" even when you mean it sincerely.
